3 reasons to treat your endometriosis.

Endometriosis is starting to gain the recognition it deserves. Women worldwide who suffer from this debilitating condition, where endometrial cells grow in places other than the endometrium, need to be supported to take control of their symptoms.

Here at Sydney Natural Fertility, we have extensive experience managing endometriosis for our patients, whether they want to conceive now, in the future, or not at all!

Let’s take a look at 3 reasons why you should treat your endometriosis sooner rather than later.

Endometriosis & ovarian cancer

“New research has shown an increased risk of ovarian cancer in women who have endometriosis.”

1. Reduce adhesions.

If you treat your endometriosis as soon as possible, it can reduce the number of adhesions. What are adhesions? They’re when two or more structures in your body, such as your ovaries and bowel, stick together with fibrous tissue. These adhesions increase pain and can have negative impacts on fertility.

2. Reduce pain.

Pain is arguably the most common reason you may want to seek help to treat your endometriosis. Pain is most often experienced at the onset and duration of each period, however it can also be experienced randomly at any time in the menstrual cycle. There are many ways to treat your endometriosis pain, including supplements, herbal medicine, and acupuncture.

3. Reduce risk of ovarian cancer.

New research has determined a genetic link in women with endometriosis and ovarian cancer. While we can’t change our genetics, it’s worth noting that we can influence them via something called epigenetics. Epigenetics are how your environment influence your genes. Endometriosis is an oestrogenic condition, meaning high levels of oestrogen feed the condition and make it worse. Ovarian cancer risk also increases the longer a woman is exposed to oestrogen. For this reason, supporting healthy oestrogen metabolism (something we can help with in natural medicine) is a good idea.
